A fireplace serves as both a practical and ornamental element in a home. During the colder months, it keeps you warm. When not in use, these feature-worthy appliances also serve as a room’s focal point… if beautified enough! A fireplace’s appearance may make or break a room’s decor. I’ve compiled a short list of fireplace designs that may help spark your imagination and creativity if you are seeking design inspiration to take your fireplace to the next level!
1. The Modern Black Fireplace
Simplistic black porcelain tiles add an effortlessly classic look to improve any fireplace’s overall aesthetic and feel. You can’t go wrong with traditional black in today’s trendy styles. While slightly masculine due its grounding nature, the richness of a darker focal point somehow offers a sense of ease. My favorite part of this design element is that it creates a perfect backdrop for a television to blend in beautifully above the fireplace if so desired. Additional accents of charcoal tones, such as picture frames, candleholders, and side tables, can pave the way for a cohesive living space.

2. Traditional White Marble Fireplace
When it comes to fireplaces sometimes less is more, and this marble stone cast surround is a perfect example of just that. A touch of crown molding at the mantle and a bit of a fluted detail on the legs really goes a long way. What I love most is visual contrast of the brick interior of firebox that stands out against the white marble surrounding it. It serves as an elegant focal point in the otherwise monochromatic room without overwhelm.

3. Asymmetrical Stone Facade Fireplace
Commanding attention, this magnificent yet subtle stone fireplace creates a major focal point within the living space. The asymmetry offers a sense of stylish simplicity, as it mixes perfectly a finish of natural movement paired with soft and understated grays. While it grounds the back wall of the living space, I love how the weight of the stone accent off to the right allows for ease of furniture arrangement.

4. The Classic & Clean See Through Fireplace
Ahhh, minimalistic and modern without the pretension! This see-through fireplace is an aesthetically pleasing design solution to those gigantic spaces that require a cozier vibe. The sprinkle of darker tones seen on the black tile border around the firebox and the espresso finished seat in this monochromatic palette balance the space nicely. I love the addition of the dark-stained wooden hearth. Not only does it define the log storage, but offers warmth amongst the lighter tones.

5. The Casual Concrete Washed Fireplace
Grand spaces call for grand statements! This fireplace inspiration brings in all the warmth in such a GRAND room while maintaining a very understated vibe. The feel of natural, washed concrete and a layer of movement to the space without being overpowering and contradicting surrounding design elements. The reglets, or horizontal breaks in the vast height of the fireplace surround, are lovely design intention that allows the visual weight of this focal point to remain balanced, and not too heavy.

Love the modern black! What type of budget should we be setting aside to plan for this renovation?
